Meet your teacher
My Story

20 years ago I had severe spinal and neck injuries from a motorcycle accident, I tried many different forms of exercises including Yoga to get my strength back, but all lead to failure. I was introduced to my teacher, Peter Mullholland, who explained that my physical injuries had indeed healed, but it was my fear of and negativity towards them that was preventing a full range of movement. It was at this point that I realised, as BKS Iyengar once said, “Yoga is a light which once lit will never dim. The better the practice the brighter the flame”.
The path of yoga is a long one and is by no means easy. It is really about finding the divine light that shines in all of us but that light is not easy to find, it involves digging in the hard clay. It is the job of a good teacher, not to deviate from the teaching of Yoga, and remain a dedicated student so that they can pass that knowledge down to others, allowing the seed of knowledge to be sown and the elements to make it blossom be encouraged.
Sadhana Yoga and Ayurveda is not a style of Yoga or a fad. It is Hatha yoga for the attainment of Raja Yoga. The yoga that is taught at Sadhana will set up a good foundation for anyone who wants to take it further.

What to expect at a class
-
Always under 9 people in a class, space to move freely.
-
Relaxation is always first, calm breath creates a clear mind.
-
From the beginning I was taught the importance of levels (kramas) starting with basic movements, learning to warm up the body, becoming familiar with how the gross joints and limbs operate and allowing blood circulation without running out of breath. To a question on “Should the asana practice be done fast and why not?”, Krishnamacharya replied that "fast movements, and in turn, fast breathing will disturb the flow of prana and will result in imbalances. Slow movements with long inhale and exhale will help with proper prana flow and mental focus. "
-
Focus on stability, strength and flexibility
-
Relaxation
-
As a student progresses and understands what is being asked, the deeper practices will be revealed.

A yoga practice is just, THAT, we practice the yoga to keep it with us when we leave the yoga room, so that the reason for loss of the calm breath, relaxed skin and clear mind can be known. It is through this knowledge that positive change is realised.
