Ayurvedic Treatments
The information provided here is a general guideline. All treatments recommended by Sadhana are therapeutic in nature. They will only be prescribed after an initial Ayurvedic Consultation.
Abhyanga – Ayurvedic Massage
Ayurvedic Massage is similar to lymphatic massage. Warm oil is applied at a temperature suitable to each individual’s constitution and specific imbalances.

In Ayurvedic Massage, consideration is given to balancing the 5 elements within the body (earth, water, fire, air and space). This means that as well as the physiological systems of the body – lymphatic, respiratory, musculoskeletal – the body’s internal energies are also given attention.

Massage strokes are selected according to each person’s natural constitution and imbalances, and Abhyanga always finishes with a head massage.

The body is made of 7 dhatus (tissues). Massage of the feet, spine and head with medicated oils helps to expel toxins from these tissues. This provides energy, vitality, nourishment and also helps to delay the ageing process.
Ayurvedic Massage Oils
Medicated oils are selected according to each client’s specific needs. Massage oils are always applied warm.

The most commonly used oil in Abhyanga is cold-pressed Sesame Oil.

Sesame oil is rich in calcium, magnesium, phosphorus, iron and zinc. Its therapeutic use can help arrest the greying of hair, gout, arthritis, muscle pain and swelling.

The qualities of sesame oil act on the pineal and pituitary glands of the endocrine system. These glands are responsible for stabilising serotonin levels. Therapeutic massage with sesame oil can have a calming and strengthening affect on the endocrine system and help to stabilise the 3 doshas.

Sesame Oil is also recommended for children’s massage.
